Dr. Bromberg earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Syracuse University. He is licensed to practice psychology in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and one Canadian province. He is Board Certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is also a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider in the Commonwealth of Virginia. (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York do not have any such credential.)
Although Dr. Bromberg had coursework and practica in both school and clinical psychology, the majority of his practicum (supervised clinical work as a psychology graduate student) experiences were in an urban school district. Dr. Bromberg was particularly interested in developing interventions for students exhibiting severe behavioral problems. Many of these students had also experienced childhood maltreatment and/or were involved with the juvenile justice system.
Dr. Bromberg worked as a school psychologist in the Syracuse City School District in Syracuse, NY, and in two suburban school districts in New Jersey. He then accepted a position as a clinical and forensic psychologist in one of New Jersey's four legislatively-mandated centers for assessment and treatment of minors affected by child abuse and neglect. He subsequently did part-time work within one of New Jersey's secure care facilities for juveniles and also worked with adults who were under the supervision of the New Jersey State Parole Board's Sex Offender Management Unit.
Dr. Bromberg lives by the motto " ... And he would gladly learn, and gladly teach" (an excerpt from The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales). He strives to attain cutting-edge knowledge and skills by attending continuing education programs provided by the American Psychological Association, American Academy of Forensic Psychology (affiliated with the American Board of Professional Psychology), Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA), Institute for Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy of the University of Virginia (ILPP), and other high-quality continuing education providers.
Consistent with Dr. Bromberg's commitment to teaching, he has provided continuing education to his peers at annual conventions of the American Psychological Association, at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and through other professional agencies and organizations. He has testified as an expert witness in numerous civil (including family) and criminal court matters in New Jersey. (Teaching and explaining complicated psychological information to judges and jurors is the proper role of an expert witness.) Dr. Bromberg has co-edited and co-authored several scholarly books including the following: Sexually violent predators: A clinical science handbook (published by Springer in 2019); Childhood maltreatment, 2nd edition (published by Hogrefe in 2019); Toolkit for working with juvenile sex offenders (published by Elsevier in 2014); and Handbook of child and adolescent sexuality: Developmental and forensic psychology (published by Elsevier in 2013).
